RATIONALE AND DEMAND OF THE PROGRAM
|
|
The Gulf Business and UAE, in specific, has witnessed a
tremendous growth in business activities in the recent years. Though
Oil and Gas are Emirate’s main industries, which underpin the country’s
considerable prosperity yet trade and tourism have become the key
engines of growth. The UAE economy has grown significantly in the
recent years. Its GDP in 2007 reached Dh 729.7 billion, with a growth
of 7.4% from last year’s figures, while the contribution of non-oil
sectors to the GDP for the same year was a healthy Dh 467bn, which
constitutes 64.1% of the total UAE GDP for 2007. The UAE’s non-oil
‘gross domestic product’ is expected to exceed 70% by 2010,
according to forecasts. UAE’s Gross Domestic Production (GDP) in
2010 will reach around $218.4 billion (Dh802.1bn), as compared to
$170.7bn in 2007 and $187.7bn in 2008. It indicated that the annual
growth rate of the GDP was 28% annually from 2004 and 2011.This
target is backed by strong economic performances in the non-oil sector
as well as increased oil output. Despite having the fourth largest oil
reserves in the world, the oil sector accounts for less than a third of
the UAE’s GDP. Real estate, trade and tourism are key non-oil drivers.
The tremendous growth in economy coupled with strong population
base of 5.19 million from more than 185 nationalities has given a
substantial boost to business in the U.A.E.

from inbound visitors would grow by 7.2% annually till 2015. The 10-
year (2006-15) annualized growth forecast is now posted at 3.2% per
annum. Both governmental and non-governmental efforts are underway
to make UAE a year-round destination. The country has made its
mark as a safe destination. With the exponential growth in the
air-transport, accommodation, tour operation and event management
